Concerned about global warming melting ice caps? Maybe we should all run to the hills. Before you do that though, have a drink first. Fill your glass with some ice cubes. Notice that as the ice cubes melt, what happens? Does the amount of liquid increase and cause your drink to overflow? No, the level stays the same. The amount of liquid displaced by the ice is replaced by the volume of water that has melted. For this very same reason, you shouldn’t worry about sea levels rising as the result of global warming melting ice caps, icebergs or frozen penquins. Stay right where you are and have another drink.
